Wisdom in the Media

“You reap what you sow”

“Empty barrels make the most noise”

“Friendships last when each friend thinks he has a slight superiority over the other”

“When a thin plant wants to die, them shoot”

“A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic”

These are some of the many proverbs, maxim and one line statements that emphasize a common truism passed down from pass generations. I actually love history and one thing I can say about history is that it repeats itself throughout the ages. Well relatively at least not exactly, this fact only applies to human behavior not the environment, technology of the times.

Naturally, each generation had specific circumstances affected by these two things but in general, many of our human behaviors repeat, as unlike the physical world around us, society gets a reboot each generation, as the one young ones growing up learn from the past generation. They learn directly (parents, education system) and indirectly (socialization, media). The proverbs would be defined as a part of media, memes are also a form of media. I even noted that many of these memes have truisms, maxims and proverbs.

Good point….

As time passes people find new ways to pass across knowledge and wisdom especially from the past. But considering the social problems do you think wisdom is being carried effectively in this age? I tend towards thinking yes, the problem is not really with the efficiency of the media nowadays. It is more easily accessible and more widespread.

It just works too well in disseminating false information, anti-social behavior or unsavory and other information that is either useless, garbage or something of the like. So it is a safe prediction not everyone will grow into sages with a mass wealth of wisdom.

Some will fall to the wayside and grow into a detriment to the society eroding the foundations of it. Some might become a man of the nation seemingly unimportant but a cork in a machine that must never stop. While some might go down a path that society might deem unwise, but in reality, it is just a difference in lifestyle.

The wisdom out there each piece of wisdom is different, it can be learned by anyone, it is really up to the person to choose which one and accept it. I hope that no matter the bad influences that bombard our young people they can ascend to truly capable and wise adults.
